Brunel Creative Writing graduate Samantha Philo-Gill has written a non-fiction book about the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) in World War One.

In March 1917, the first women to be enrolled into the British Army joined the newly formed WAAC. Her book explores the experience of the women who served in France, as well as how they have been remembered in art, literature, museums and memorials.

Samantha wrote a novel on the WAAC for her PhD, as well as researching the representation of women war workers in World War One literature.

She will be giving a talk on the Corps and signing copies of her book at Uxbridge Library on Friday 10 March, 7.30pm - 9pm.

The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in France 1917-1921: Women Urgently Wanted is published by Pen and Sword Books Ltd. It is available from their website  through online bookshops and Barnard's Bookshop in Uxbridge.
