There are so many great ways to make friends at university during your first few weeks. It’s a good idea to find friends at uni so you have people you can talk to, socialise with, and do work with.
Your university will run lots of Fresher’s events during the first few weeks for students to attend. These events are a great way to meet people. Most universities will run events such as clubbing events, outdoor activities, quiz nights and even film nights. Another great event to go to is Fresher’s Fayre. All societies, clubs and sports on campus will come together for Fresher’s Fayre, and you have the chance to talk to new people, find new interests and sign up for activities/societies you might be interested in. This is another great way to find and meet new people!
If you live on campus, your flatmates are a great way to talk and make friends. Everyone’s likely to be in the same position of living alone for the first time, so trying to make friends with your flatmates can be a great idea. Creating a flat group chat is an excellent way to connect with everyone and plan activities to do together. If you don’t live on campus, make the most of Fresher’s events and try to attend them to help you find new people! Many universities also have WhatsApp groups/Facebook groups for incoming Freshers, another way to connect with people and find potential friends.
Talking to people on the same course as you/in the same classes is always a good way to meet people with similar interests and become friends. Going to all of your classes in the first few weeks will definitely help you find new people and potentially make a new friendship group.
Say yes to events you’re invited to - even if you’re nervous to go! Saying yes to events will push you outside of your comfort zone and help you meet even more people and find some amazing friends.
Overall, there are so many ways to meet new people during the first few weeks of university. Attend as many events as you can, go to your classes and say yes to new experiences and you’re sure to find friends.
