Kalliopi Letsiou, Doctoral Researcher at BLS, Participates in a Conference in Edinburgh

Kalliopi Letsiou, Doctoral Researcher at Brunel Law School, participated in the recent Edinburgh Postgraduate Law Conference (EPLC) 2023, which explored the theme "Law in the 21st Century: Challenges and Adaptations."

Kalliopi presented on the topic of Supervisory Technology, or 'Suptech', and how the Anti-Money Laundering (AML) supervisors can leverage technological advancements like AI and machine learning to enhance AML supervisory efforts. She examined the transformative potential of Suptech in detecting and preventing money laundering.

Besides highlighting the benefits of these novel tools and exploring the accompanying legal challenges, Kalliopi also put forth a thought-provoking analysis of the existing policy recommendations.

Moreover, she proposed avenues for the optimal use of SupTech, fostering an important dialogue about its role in modern supervisory systems.

Speaking about the conference, Kalliopi noted: "The conference was a vibrant confluence of ideas and debate that explored the impact of emerging technologies on various areas of law like financial regulation. It was an enriching platform, sparking dialogue and fostering academic discourse on how the law is grappling with, and should further evolve to meet, the demands of the 21st century"
