On 30 January 2018, Brunel Law School students were welcomed to the London office of law firm to gain a real-life perspective on commercial law.
The event was hosted by Anne Waltham, a partner of the film and a specialist in real estate litigation, and senior associate Senay Nihat who is a trained barrister, has practised at the bar, and has done secondments with a local authority.
This was a great opportunity for the 26 students in attendance, who were able to hear about Gowling law firm and learn about commercial law from the real-life perspective of professionals. It also gave them an insight into the workings of a law firm with a global reach, as Gowling has offices in London, Birmingham, Brussels, Dubai, Guangzhou, Monaco, Munich, Paris, Singapore and Stuttgart.
Anne and Senay started the session by presenting to the students and telling them about their experiences, before the floor was open to questions. This allowed the students to probe further, and to widen their knowledge of commercial law.
After the session, Senay sent a message to Head of Law, Arad Reisberg, which read "Thank you for bringing along such engaged and friendly students! I was very happy to help, and enjoyed speaking with them, so sounds like it was a good evening for everyone! Best of luck with the mentoring and outreach plans going forward; I know your efforts are such a huge boost to the students".
The Brunel Law School is committed to increasing the employability of all students, with continous plans to expose students to real-life experience and knowledge. Study the Law LLB at a university who will help you navigate into a successful career.
