A Life Fellow at Queens’ College, Cambridge, Prof Pitelis joins from the University of Bath where he held the role of Professor of Sustainable Global Business as well as Director of the Centre for International Business and Management (CIBAM).
Prof Pitelis started his academic career in the field of economics, undertaking his PhD at the University of Warwick. He has since worked at the University of Nottingham, the University of St Andrews and, most extensively at the University of Cambridge, where he was appointed as the first Lecturer in Business Economics at the then new Judge Institute of Management Studies (now Judge Business School) and a Fellow in Economics at Queens’ College at 1991.
With vast experience of internationalisation, he was Director of Studies in Economics and then Management at Queens’, co-ordinated teaching at Cambridge as Head of the International Business sub-Group and ran for a semester the Strategy and International Management Group at Bath.
He was President of the Hellenic Organisation of SMEs for three years, a then 200 strong organisation with a £10 million budget, through some of the most turbulent years of the Greek economy.
Further afield, he has been visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley and the Copenhagen Business School, and has supported developing universities in other countries, helping, for example, the University of St Petersburg Graduate School of Management achieve the country's first ever EQUIS accreditation. He is also independent contractor Director at the Berkeley Research Group.

Prof Pitelis has acted as a consultant for UNCTAD, the EU and many national governments on key projects. As a researcher he is a leader in the field of international business and strategic management, Editor of the Cambridge Journal of Economics and the collected papers of Edith Penrose and at the Editorial Boards of journals such as Organisation Science.
