The Access Project is a charity that supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in unlocking their potential and breaking down barriers to access selective universities. The organisation works with young people to make good applications, grades, and transition to university helping ultimately to transform their future career prospects.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will support a young person aged 14-18 in term-time (Autumn 2024 - Summer 2025) with their academic studies. As a Online Volunteering Tutor, you will increase your subject knowledge while building confidence and learning a set of skills such as subject expertise, communication, adaptability, patience, problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management.
Typical duties include:
- Delivering one-to-one online tutoring sessions to a young person focusing on specific subjects or topics they want to improve to achieve the GCSE (high demand for support with sciences and maths)
- Creating a learning plan for the student, addressing their academic strengths, weaknesses, and learning objectives
- Offering support, encouragement, and guidance to students in addition to academic tutoring
- Creating a nurturing environment that fosters student motivation and growth
Please note, this organisation request one hour a week in school term time. You’ll also be request to complete a DBS check, an online safeguarding course, and a 2.5 hour training sessions over the summer. The organisation would like you to complete a minimum of 3 months.
