Mrs Maggie (Maggie) Stephenson
EdD Student
Summary
I am a 1st year student on the EdD Programme. I gained a BA in Education Studies at Greenwich University, an MA in Special and Inclusive Education at the Institute of Education (London) and an MEd in Education Research at Cambridge University (Murray Edwards College). I have previously worked in the field of Special Educational Needs/Disabilities in both Primary and Secondary schools.
In 2014, I was involved in the launch of the SEND reforms across South East England while working for the Council for Disabled Children. My current role as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) in Further Education offers me the opportunity to work closely with the curriculum team, various local authorities, health and social care teams, parents/carers and young people to provide a person centred learning experience for the students.
My areas of expertise in SEND are assessments for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP’s), transitions from schools to FE and consultations. Putting theory into practice in my chosen career and field of research means I am constantly learning directly from those who are impacted by SEND and those working with them. I am keen to further develop my understanding of the legal aspect of SEND and policy development.
