It was with great honour that BCAST hosted the 11th International Conference on Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications, Mg2018 at Beaumont Estate, Old Windsor, UK, on 24-27 July 2018. Magnesium Alloys and Their Applications is the longest running conference dedicated to the development of magnesium alloys and processes for structural and other applications with its beginnings in 1986 as the 2-day Magnesium Technology conference in London.
Mg2018 brought together scientists, engineers and users from academia and industry to examine the recent developments and advances in both the established and emerging fields of magnesium, in relation to both the fundamental science and application of magnesium alloys.
The week-long conference was attended by 222 delegates and featured 140 oral presentations, of which 13 were plenary presentations, and 45 poster presentations. All presentations provided the opportunity to reflect on the magnesium research to date and consider what needs to be done to make magnesium the material of choice moving forward.
Mg2018 also hosted the first Karl Kainer Lecture, a new addition to the conference series that will be given by an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the science and technology of magnesium alloys and their applications. The inaugural lecture presented this year by Prof Karl U. Kainer recognises his outstanding contribution to magnesium alloy developments as well as towards the application of magnesium alloys in industry. It also recognises his contributions as chair and co-chair to the Mg conference series.
During the evening activities a farmers’ market allowed our international guests to get a feel for the seaside and farm cuisine popular with tourists to the 成人直播app, whilst our Gala Dinner offered the opportunity to thank participants for their contributions and to announce the poster winners from this year conference.
The next conference of the Mg series will be held in Canada in 2021.
