The GELCLAD project aims at developing a novel highly affordable and efficient smart cladding eco-panel solution, possessing excellent thermal insulation performance like no other in the market by integrating aerogel: a nano-insulation having the lowest thermal conductivity of all insulation materials. The new product developed can be applied to old buildings as well as for new ones, with the advantage of being a modular all-in-one superior insulation system that can be considerably thinner and lighter, allowing for a much simpler and swift installation, when compared with conventional solutions.
The solution proposed encloses a novel modular component external insulation cladding system product – GELCLAD – made of distinct inner super insulation aerogel core and outer wood polymer composite (WPC) weatherproof skin frame made with eco-polymers, resulting in a completely new off-the-shelf and ready-to-use unit.
The project aims at a wise combination and fine tuning of aerogel and WPC which have individually already established in the construction market, towards the manufacturing and scale-up of a multilayer product. The research plan will demonstrate the application and effectiveness of the innovative solution in an industrial and building environment (TRL 7) towards a fast market acceptance.
