Waste Management & Valorisation (WasteValue)

The research group aims at the feasibility of circular management of urban waste ad environmental sustainability of the systems in construction. Examples of research projects in this group include the prefabricated modular wall panel made from construction and demolition waste (CDW), in an ongoing EU H2020 project “Green INSTUCT: Green Integrated Structural Elements for Retrofitting and New Construction of Buildings”. Another ongoing EU H2020 project called “SMART-Plant: Scale-up of low-carbon footprint Material Recovery Techniques in existing wastewater treatment Plants” is part of this research group. aims to support the water sector to improve and ensure environmental protection, become more adaptive, and respond to contemporary environmental and societal challenges by introducing innovative technologies solutions, moving towards resources recovery approaches in wastewater management.

Three successfully completed EU projects in this research group include “: Rubber fusion of wood plastic composites to make functional composites for building applications”, “ReWoBioRef: Mobilisation and utilisation of Recovered Wood for lignocellulosic BioRefinery processes” and “: Utilisation of recovered wood and rubber for alternative composite products.
