The cropping tool allows editors to select an area from an existing image, which can be used to:

  • Reduce the overall physical dimensions of an image to improve framing
  • Removal of unwanted canvas space to accentuate the subject matter
  • Tidying of image borders and/or changing the aspect ratio.

crop1To use the Cropping Mask open the image in the Image Editor. Activate the Cropping Mask by first clicking on the image where you will see the image darkens and a small box appears at the point where the mouse was clicked. This is the cropping mask. To expand the box with the mouse, drag the corners out, shown with red arrows.

crop4To resize you are able to specify the width and height on the right hand side or drag the corners out with the mouse crop2. To move the cropping mask click in the middle crop3and drag and drop to the desired place.

Saving Image

You are able to ‘save’, ‘preview’ and ‘reset changes’. Saving brings up a dialogue box adding the pixel size at the end ‘-Cropped-533x449’ , you can either accept the new title or rename it. Saving it then brings up the variation in the Project Explorer ‘Altered Versions’ once expanded below the original.
